SUHDAY MORITIHG, AUGUST 17, 1915. -o- 0 There is but one healing power for man. We have many remedies, but one healing Agent. That is Divine Mind. This, we know, is fundamental in all systems of restoration; but in some, it seems so f&r away, so difficult to attain, that it is not considered available. A right understanding of this one Principle brings it very close to us, ana, having this understanding, we apply it directly to the simple as well as the greatest of our ills. "The prayer of Stith shall save the sick. Prayer is the simple name for all the methods of man in appropriating this one remedy and this one source of health. It is Spirit; it is Mind; it is Omnipresence; it is All Power. It requires that we, in our spiritual consciousness, recognise it. 2 Row, we all want to be healed; we want our eyes healed, our ears healed; our flesh healed - we want the whole man to take advantage of this wonderful remedy. Then, let us apply the prayer of faith, that we may be healed. And this will he the Central Thought: "By Thy cleansing Spirit I am purified and healed. My eyes, my ears, my entire consciousness have I given to Thy Restoring Power". I will read it again. We will all hold it in the Silence: "By Thy cleansing Spirit I am purified and healed. My eyes, my ears, my entire consciousness have I given to Thy Restoring Power. Everyhodj/- please join in that prayer. (Silence) 3 As usual, the subject of our study this morning is healing. I have heard people criticize our constant repetition of the healing idea. I have heard them say that 'they thought it would he well for us once in a while to prepare people for heaven, to get them ready to die, to save their souls. How, our answer is that man needs, above all things, healing. He is soul-sick, and the body, being the fruit of his soul, shows forth that sickness. It is therefore necessary that healing be the fundamental key-note of all teaching, and all lessons that tend to the redemption of man. The fact is that in the ministry of Jesus Christ, I think it is safe to say that nine-tenths of his work was devoted to healing, in some of its phases. Sometimes it was healing the 4 mind with, moral lessons, and again, it was healing the body; but there was always healing somewhere. He recognized the necessity of a great healing force going forth to man, lifting him out of his diseased condition. ITow, this morning we have a lesson on the healing of the outer planes of consciousness. It didn’t pertain especially to the soul-nature, nor to the mental, the intellectual, but the very flesh itselfr the healing of the ten lepers. The central idea in man is I AM. Interpreting the Scripture spiritually, we find that this is represented by Jesus, and whenever you read in the Scripture of Jesus, you may know that that means the man, it means every man; it means I Ml. ITow, this I AM functions in the high spiritual, or it functions in the low mater- 5 ial, in the sense. It runs the whole gamut of consciousness, I AM does. It is a directive power. It is that which takes possession of all ideas. It is to this I AM that the Father gives all that he has - all of his ideas - and this I AM travels up and down its consciousness, the consciousness which it has formed - mind and tody. ¥e are told that Jesus, with his disciples, in this allegory, was traveling towards Jerusalem, through Samaria and Galilee. Fow, every one of these places means a locality, or an activity - either a locality or an activity in the mind. Remember that we are reading the Scripture now not according to the letter, but according to the Spirit. There is nothing in the letter - the letter killeth; the Spirit maketh alive 6 back of this healing that took place nineteen hundred years ago. The possibility of that same Jesus, that same I Am performing the healing of you, heals j’-our leprosy. But you say, "this referred to ten lepers, and there was Jesus going to Jerusalem, and he was simply passing through Galilee and Samaria".' But what does all this mean? Why, you look at your Bible dictionary, and you will find that Jerusalem means the great central City towards which all Jews joui-neyed; and the Jew is the spiritually quickened one, and the Gentile is the materially alive individual. And the Jerusalem is that great Spiritual Center in every man; and Samaria means the intellectual man. And Galilee means "life activity"; means "to whirl". Back of all of these you ca,n see, then, is the symbol 7 Hoy/, the disciples represent the twelve faculties cf man; and these are journeying; they are moving forward to the spiritual consciousness. But, as they move in man1s consciousness, they find that there are certain diseased conditions, conditions that are not in harmony with this Ideal City, or this ideal condition, this City of Peace, of Harmony that man is tending towards. Ve are told that they met on their way ten lepers, and these ten lepers were crying with a loud voice, "Heal us, heal us", or, in some cases, they were required by law to cry, "Impure, Impure". They had to stand away. They weren't allowed to come into the presence of the holy priest, or of the people. They stood afar off, this Scripture says. How, that means that this represented some outer plane 8 of consciousness, the most cuter. It was far away from the spiritual center in man. And where do you find that in the consciousness? Why, you say, it is the most outer realm of expression -the five senses, and their outer avenues; and there being ten of them, is represented by the ten avenues through which these five senses express themselves. You know that you have two eyes and two ears, and two nostrils, and two, really, of every one of the senses, that is, in their avenues of expression. So that we see where the ten comes in. There were ten of them, a,nd they were all lepers. They all had this insiduous disease that eats in the flesh, on the very outer expression of the flesh, the cuticle, that gradually withdraws from the fingers the life force until they drop off, and the various members, the outer members of the body. lose their vital force and become perfectly inactive, useless How, this is a true representative of the condition of the outer man, when he has fallen short of the law, or when he nas sinned; and the only healing is a restoration of the Life force. Sin is the cutting man away from the Great Inflow or Life, ana it is only through the I Am, the Jesus in us, that the connection is again made. And when it is made, why, every part of this outer man is supplied with the Hew Life. We, apparently, in our beginning of the work of healing the sense-man, or healing the flesh, take some single member, or all of the members and heal. We heal our eyes, we heal our ears, and we heal every part of the flesh in detail; but, as we get at the fundamental, we find that there is but one, and that is feel- 10 ing - and this is also the report of physical science - that through the feelings come forth all of these different expressions, so, there was only one man returned, and that one was reeling. How then, as you get "back your feeling, you ..ill j-ii-d that he is also the original source of the sin; that through our feelings, through the sensations in the flesh, we first fall short. We live in sensation, and if we allow that sensation i>o ta^e pos session of us, and live for the pure purpose of sensation, without knowing its cause, why we sin, because there is always a reaction. You never have excessive sensation in pleasure but what Jou c”re very close to pain, and pain is merely the reaction. It is the adjustment of the great force working in your consciousness. showed how we may adjust ITow, Jesus, in this parable, ourselves to the great Law of Harmony. He ¥/as nearing Jerusalem; he was approaching that place in man where the Law of Love, where the Law of Peace, where the lav; of spiritual harmony, and poise, is fixed. It isn't something that we make for ourselves, hut it is already adjusted, it is already established - the law is already written. All that man requires is to lay himself open to it. Just open your mind to this fact, that there is the healing force waiting your appropriation cf it. But you must appropriate it for every part of your being. . Some people think that healing is only for the soul; that the body is a mere worn-out garment when one reaches a certain point - you may say age - when the body seems all to get useless and old. They think that is necessary is to lay 12 it aside. That the soul is the real thing; that it goes on. But that isn’t good logic; it isn't good science. If God is the Omnipresent Life, Substance, Intelligence, and He gives roan, the I AM, his power, and man forms his soul, and the soul forms the body, there must be a unity there - they must all belong together. Then, it isn't wise to think for a moment that you can lay aside your body as a worn-out garment, ho. All of your efforts are for the healing of the body. You heal it from center to c i r c unfer enc e. how, sometimes you are in states of illness in your inner organs. Those need healing also. You should direct your forces, your I Am power, to the inner center. Then again, you need healing in the outer, those forces that seem afar off, seem so external, so far removed from the center, that are diseased. You may call it Eczema; you may call it weak eyes; you may call it dull hearing; hut it all comes from sin, it all comes from this leprosy of man. And the only healing for that leprosy is a new, pure, stream of Life. And where will you find tint? Only in the presence of the Spirit, and the River of Life is within every one of us. It flows continually through you, a great invisible stream of energy, and Eorce and Power. But you must lay hold of it. It raajr flow there from birth to death, and you Enow nothing about it, unless you lay hold of it with your mind. You must believe in it. You must have Paith in it, and so, in the conclusion of this Lesson, Jesus said, 'According to thy Paith, be it unto thee. Go and sin no more". And here, the Icey-note to the whole situation was given: 14 "Sin no more;" and, "according to thy faith". How much faith have you in the healing power of God? Have you such faith that you can really believe that your outer senses, the outer avenues of expression, can be healed by the Living God? If you have, your healing will be instantaneous. It will be easy. You v/ill be healed to the very uttermost. Some people get partial healing through the Divine Law, and they wonder why they are not wholly healed. It is because they haven't appropriated the quickening spiritual life, and put it into these outer expressions. In other words, you must, with your I Am go into every part of this Samaria, the intellect, and you must go there as going through Galilee, that is, with a whirl, with force. with I Am-power, hacked up by the Great Universal Mind Power l'°w, if God is the Everywhere Present Life, why, that Life must he in man, and in every department of his being. If this body is my consciousness, I must fill it with my I Am Life, and I must sec, if my eye3 don't respond, that they do respond to the Indwelling Life. I must put the whirl of Life right into those eyes and into those ears, and that is the way to treat successfully, to identify yourself with the Living Spiritual Life, and say, "According to thy Paith he it unto thee,"to those eyes, and those ears. And, if there is any inharmony in your flesh anywhere, why, know that 'the power is in I Am, rightly used, to heal it; - not that you of yourself do it, no; hut to take advantage of the Great Law. Man is perfect. Perfection is established. Any Doctor will tell you that. I don't have to refer to the Si ole, nor any metaphysical theory. It is taught on every side that nature it- self is perfect. That it restores everything to perfection if man simply gives it an opportunity. Bow, this being true, you can see how we are backed up in our Metaphysics by a Universal recognition by materially-minded men, of this Law. But do they know just how to apply that lav;? Ho. Because they dontt see the inner Spiritual meaning of the Scripture. Here it is all written out, all written out in these pages. It is written in the hearts of every one of us - that is, the inner spiritual heart, this City of Jerusalem, this spiritual consciousness exists in you, and you and you. All you need is to recognize it, to proclaim it, to have Faith in it, and it will begin to radiate, it will be a bubbling 17 Force in you of a Divine Healing Life. But, of course, there are many ways of shutting down this Life, closing its free expression; and, as you go on with your studies, you will find that these ways are sins, all of than. They are short-comings of the one Divine Good Law. A man closes his avenues of expression of the Divine Law through his lack of perception of the true spiritual man; that he is the son of the Living God, and that God's Universal Life, God's Universal Love; God's Universal Substance, Intelligence and Goodness - the Goodness of God is expressed in every one of us; that we are fundamentally good; that we are fundamentally pure; that we are fundamentally whole; that even the flesh, the leprous flesh, with all of its darkened conditions, with all of its er- rors, is fundamentally pure 18 ITow we, in this way, forgive all of its short-comings. ~ Withdraw your condemnation and put it in the hands of the Great Universal Law, and even the senses will be healed. You will find that all that idea of mortality will be taken away, and you will come forth with the purity of the little child - yes, more than the little child - you will cane forth with the Purity of the Spirit itself. 11:30 a.
